Overfitting - Still the Toughest Nut to Crack

Been wrestling with overfitting again lately. It's so easy to get a strategy looking amazing on historical data, only for it to fall apart in live trading. I'm really trying to focus on robustness and simpler rules, but it's a constant battle. Anyone else feel like they're just constantly chasing that phantom edge that disappears when you look away?
